Chipoka, Salima. One of the first of the eight new

Chipoka, Salima. One of the first of the eight new cities to be developed in the Malawi Secondary Cities Plan. Designated the Logistics and Industrial Lakeside National Centre, it is located on the western shore of Kasankha Bay across from Cape Maclear.

Both rail and lake port meet at Chipoka. Being the closest port to Lilongwe, it has the potential to develop its passenger facilities and be a regional logistics centre.

The surrounding beaches are relatively undeveloped as most holiday properties are located in Senga Bay. But the distance from Salima boma to Senga Bay is exactly the same as driving to Chipoka - an odd 30 km.
